From its opening in 2007, it didn't take long for Dragon Rouge to impress the locals: by 2008 it won Alameda Magazine's award for Best Vietnamese Restaurant, followed by Best Asian Restaurant in Alameda for 2009 and 2010. In a casually stylish atmosphere, this Vietnamese bistro serves curries, clay pots, noodles, rice paper-wrapped rolls, and other traditional fare, as well as family recipes from the chef's home village. All vegetables are local and many are organic. No MSG is used and the chef will accommodate food allergies or special diets. Dragon Rouge offers a full bar, including homemade infused vodkas, 23 beers and endless sake. Or you can bring your own bottles; corkage fee is $12. The drink menu also features a selection of exotic Asian teas. Prices are moderate, though the take-out lunch specials are hard to beat: just $3 for a Vietnamese sandwich, fried rice or garlic noodles.
