Lincoln-Douglas School is one of five elementary schools in the Freeport School District. It enrolls more than 210 students in grades one through four. The school offers a sequential, standards-based curriculum that introduces children to a range of concepts and skills. Its parent-teacher organization sponsors several family events throughout the year; including school picnics, ice cream socials and book fairs. The school s accelerated reader program involves students in reading selected library titles and completing computerized tests over the contents of each book that they have read. Its guided reading program encourages and supports students in using independent reading strategies. The school also runs Literacy First and violence prevention programs.
