Ada County Highway District provides and maintains the public highway system for the movement of people and goods in Ada County. The organization was established in 1972 as an independent government entity. The Ada County Highway District is responsible for short-range planning, construction, maintenance, operations, rehabilitation and improvements to urban streets, rural roadways excluding state highways and bridges. The organization maintains and operates approximately 1,800 miles of roads and streets throughout Idaho. This infrastructure includes multi-lane, arterial streets with a computerized signal system, as well as narrow, farm-to-market roadways. The Ada County Highway District employs more than 300 people in five departments, which include administration, engineering, maintenance and operations, traffic, and plans and development. Ada County Highway District maintains its headquarters in Boise, Idaho.
