Bronx Museum of the Arts, founded in 1971, is a contemporary art institution dedicated to serving its neighborhood and city, as well as the international art world. The museum offers visual arts through its permanent collection, exhibitions and educational programs. The collection offered includes 20th and 21st century artists of African, Asian and Latin American descent. The museum offers on-site and off-site after school programs on a regular basis. It allows students to explore a range of contemporary art practices, such as new media, animation, installation, architecture and design through organizing exhibition-related and theme-based projects. The interpretive art program at the Bronx Museum provides analytical and hands-on interactive experiences with contemporary art to students from grades kindergarten through 12.
