Heartland Head Start, located in Bloomington, Ill., is a national child and family development program designed to help preschool children of low-income families. It is a comprehensive program that meets emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs of children. The program serves more than 300 families in McLean and Livingston counties in Illinois, and encourages participation of parents and families in every aspect of the program. Heartland Head Start serves children of ages 3 and 4 in home base and classrooms before they enroll for kindergarten program. It offers various health programs, such as vaccination, tuberculosis tests and medical examinations. The program offers screening for vision, hearing, height, weight, dental and nutrition. Heartland Head Start also assists parents in enrolment and participation in a system of ongoing family health care programs.
