King-Chavez Public Schools is organized as a single 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) public benefit non-profit corporation. The non-profit corporations Board acts as the corporate governing body over separate corporate divisions or departments, one for each charter school. We believe this organizational model best provides for close and cohesive relationships between its schools reducing the burdens on each school. Student learning can remain the primary goal and Principals can assume their roles as instructional leaders. King/Chavez elected to have a single board governing all of its schools, with each school having a unique County District State ( CDS ) Code, treasury account, budget and test scores. The California Department of Education describes this type of organization as a "Charter Network Operator" .
