Legacy Mill & Cabinet About

Kurt Draper, the founder of Legacy Mill & Cabinet, had always had a dream of building cabinets and furniture and creating with his hands and mind. In high school he started to get involved in the trade. He received a scholarship for his efforts. In 1976, the dream began when right out of high school, he rented a neighbors garage and tools and began to doing custom woodwork for customers. His love and passion for the work has never left him. He went on to Utah Technical College and graduated in Cabinet Making and Millwork in 1979. In college he competed in the V.I.C.A. (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America ) competition in the state of Utah taking 1st place and then going on to the national competition in Atlanta Georgia and taking 3rd place there. Right out of College he was hired by the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints to start a facility to build furniture and custom mill work for their needs. Today that facility, Deseret Manufacturing, is alive and well with some 20, 000 square feet of manufacturing space. They produce products that are shipped around the world and at times working double shifts to keep up with the work load. The desire to "do his own thing" kept hounding Kurt. He left Deseret Manufacturing and started a furniture business. "Drapers Unfinished Furniture" was born. It was a retail operation that opened in Centerville Utah. They sold unfinished furniture, custom cabinetry and millwork that was built by them or by manufacturers through out the country. Most all of the products were custom finished to customer specifications. He had this operation for 5 years and then sold it to pursue other interests. In 1988 he went to work as a salesman for Paint Sundries Supply. Never letting go of his dream to someday have reputable cabinet and millwork company, he would do cabinet work on the side. Being selective in the jobs he would do helped him to develop a deeper love for the trade and making it more of a "passion" in his life and not just an occupation. In August of 2000, After 13 years with Paint Sundries Supply the time and situation presented itself and Kurt purchased the "Tanno Laminated Cabinet Company" that was situated in North Salt Lake, Utah. Tanno was a well established and respected cabinet company that had been in business for some 25 years in Davis County. Tanno was founded by Kent and Linda Nielsen. Tanno had a great following and did mostly commercial work. Kent and Linda had worked hard to have a company they could be proud of and they had done hundreds impressive jobs over the years. After 25 years in the business the Nielsens felt it was time for a change in their lives. With the sell of Tanno Laminated Cabinets to Kurt Draper, the name was changed and "Legacy Mill & Cabinet was born. Following the quality traditions that the Nielsens had built and the dreams and desires of a better tomorrow that Kurt had, the company progresses forward. Tanno Laminated focused on commercial work, Legacy Mill & Cabinet focused on residential work, the marriage of the two has been a good one. Today "Legacy Mill & Cabinets is doing well. Their growth has been robust. They have over 7000 square feet of manufacturing and showroom space and plans are in the works for a new facility with twice the space in the near future. Legacy Mill is not the biggest cabinet company around, but they strive to be the best with customer satisfaction being their number one goal. Two full time designers, Kurt Draper and Matt Draper are eager and ready to help you with planning the work of your dreams. Our Dedicated and Skilled Craftsmen are able and willing to go the extra mile to create a product that they can be proud of and that you will love.
