The Morgantown Police Department-Detective Division is responsible for the investigation of major crimes and the processing and collection of evidence. The police department is comprised of more than 55 sworn police officers and over 10 civilians and community volunteers. It also maintains a uniform patrol division that is responsible for answering calls for service, accident investigations, and traffic and parking enforcement. The Morgantown Police Department additionally has a street crimes unit that performs functions related to addressing specific problems within the city neighborhoods that include reducing violent crime and drug, narcotic and alcohol enforcement.
