This bi-weekly publication traces its origins back to 1893, prior to the Barrow County's existence, when a publication began serving the city of Winder, then part of Jackson County. In March 2000, that publication's successor's name was changed to the Barrow County News, which covers all of Barrow County. The newspaper publishes Wednesdays and Sundays and offers online news updated more frequently.
