Nashville Humane Association is one of the oldest service organizations in Nashville. The roots of NHA can be traced back to a society founded in 1887 to protect children from inhumane working conditions and draft horses from mistreatment. This non-profit organization was incorporated in 1946 to protect the well being of animals in Davidson County. Nashville Humane Association is committed to: promoting humane treatment of animals, finding good homes for stray or abandoned dogs and cats, educating the public about their responsibility to help control the pet population, and providing treatment and care to ensure the well being of animals in our community. This mission is carried out through the following services and activities: Humane Education Association personnel travel throughout Davidson County to teach responsible pet ownership and humane treatment for all living creatures. Tours of our facility are available for any interested group. Volunteer participation plays a vital role in the provision of Nashville Humane Association services. Volunteers work as kennel aids, foster caregivers, and humane educators and provide event assistance. Community volunteers foster in the homes sick and injured pets that require a nurturing environment. Foster animals are retuned as healthy, well-adjusted pets for placement in the adoption program.

Bay Area Greyhound Adoptions, Inc is a non-profit, charitable organization, incorporated in the state of Florida. We provide greyhound adoption services to Tampa, Hillsborough County, and surrounding communities. Our organization is staffed entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to finding loving homes for retired racing greyhounds. We have found that most greyhound kennel owners treat their dogs well and try to find good homes for the ones that arent fast enough for the track or who have reached retirement age. We recognize this effort and are working with kennel owners to find homes for as many retired racers as possible.Once we receive a telephone call from one of these kennel owners that they have greyhounds they would like to place in pet homes, we pick up the greyhounds and foster them in our own homes until they are adopted. This allows us to become familiar with each dogs personality and temperament, and to help the greyhound adjust to life in a home environment. Not only does fostering help the greyhound, but for our volunteers it is a most rewarding experience. Our volunteers show the greyhounds to the public at our numerous "meet-and-greets" throughout the Tampa Bay area. We process adoption applications, conduct home advisories and act as counselors to families after they bring their adopted greyhound home. We transport the greyhounds from the racing kennel to the foster homes and to our vets, and we bathe and groom the greyhounds prior to adoption.
