Founded in 1999, The Crucible is a nonprofit educational facility that offers classes in fine and industrial arts. It also serves as a sculpture studio, educational foundry and metal fabrication shop. The educational facility provides classes in blacksmithing, ceramics, jewelry, woodworking, stone work, enameling, welding and textile. Thelma Harris Art Gallery is a privately owned gallery that displays rotating exhibitions of works by local and nationally-recognized African American artists. The gallery collects approximately 10 special exhibitions each year, either exploring contemporary themes or displaying the work of specific artists. Thelma Harris Art Gallery works with clients in order to develop specific collections, or to assist in the acquisition of a specific work of art.
