The Maryland Center for Entrepreneurship is an organization developed by the Howard County Economic Development Authority to provide resources and a supportive community for entrepreneurs. It provides a strong interactive community of innovators, entrepreneurs, investors and advisors. Programs and services include the Howard Tech Council, the Innovation Catalyst (iCat) EnCorps Program, the Race for Innovation Program and Startup Maryland. The center regularly hosts events, speakers and workshops.
The Columbia Athletic Club, part of the Columbia Association, is located in a large, white stucco building. At first glance, it doesn't look like a traditional fitness club, but don't be fooled by its exterior. This club, located in Harper's Choice, has everything you need to stay fit. It also has an indoor tennis facility and many programs, activities and classes.
Athelas Institute is a resource for those with varying degrees of developmental disabilities, autism, and/or mental retardation. Athelas Institute offers rehabilitative, educational, employment, and individualized support through a variety of day programs, residential opportunities, and therapies. Athelas Institute has program locations in Columbia, as well as in the surrounding county areas. Residents are placed by need, not residence. Located right off Hickory Ridge Road, it is the perfect place to relax after a long work week. The Skin Care Institute has twice been voted Best Day Spa by Howard County Magazine. The helpful staff offers massages, facials, manicures and more.
Stonehouse is Long Reach's community center. Its facilities are rented out for activities that enhance the community. For example, dance classes are held here several times each week. Stonehouse also holds its own community events and activities throughout the year.
Maryland Works is a nonprofit company that works to level the playing field for people with developmental disabilities. It offers a full schedule of classes and seminars to help those that need to develop their skills.
The Maryland Association for Justice, formerly the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, is a public outreach, legislative advocacy, and professional association group representing hundreds of trial lawyers across Maryland and beyond. It provides a number of developmental resources for legal members; it also operates separate community charitable donation and political action committees.
Owen Brown Community Center is located just off of Cradlerock Way. This center is for local Howard County and Maryland events and has a conference room, kitchen, lobby and main event area. The Association is a membership group whose mission is to advance human services in the county by offering a series of support, training and education efforts to help organizations and individuals operate successfully. They operate through a small part-time staff and volunteers.
Kahler Hall is located just off of Old Tucker Road. This hall is the seat of the local government, and is also a facility open to use for community gatherings, birthday parties and other social events. Kahler has a total of five rooms available for rent, call for pricing and availability.
