Family Promise of Bergen County, once known as the Interreligious Fellowship for the Homeless of Bergen County, is a nonprofit organization that provides temporary housing and hospitality to families facing homelessness.
Made up of 15 host congregations, Family Promise of Bergen County offers temporary lodging to families on three non-consecutive weeks per year on a rotating basis. Three to four families are transported to different host congregations where volunteers are ready to provide a host of services ranging from homework help for children and a nutritious meal for the family.
In addition to temporary shelter, Family Promise offers case managers who help families address the factors that led to their homelessness, and community members ready to provide assistance with locating affordable housing, reliable transportation, dependable childcare and employment with a livable wage.
Starsheret, meaning "chain" in Hebrew, is a national non-profit organization addressing the challenges facing young Jewish women living with breast cancer. They plan events across the nation out of their headquarters on Teaneck Rd. in Teaneck, NJ.
According to their website, "Since Sharsheret's founding in 2001, we have responded to more than 19,000 breast cancer inquiries, involved more than 1,000 peer supporters, and presented over 200 educational programs nationwide. Sharsheret now offers a continuum of care for the Jewish community–addressing the needs of those who are concerned about the risk of breast cancer in their family, those who have been diagnosed with the disease and are undergoing treatment, and those who face issues of survivorship or recurrence."
Unity Church of Christ is located in a quiet residential neighborhood. Sunday services are held at 9am and 11am and Sunday school begins at 11am. The church holds prayer services every Wednesday evening at 7pm.
Established in 1989, NCSY is dedicated to inspiring and helping Jewish teenagers learn about their heritage since. The group offers weekly meetings and organizes trips. NCSY is conveniently located near several area high schools.
Overpeck Community Rowing Association is a nonprofit organization also known as Teaneck Rowing Club. It has a mission of promoting rowing for persons of any age, gender, creed, or race. To achieve this, it hosts programs for youth, collegiates, and adults all year long.
