E-mail: clearinghouse miusa.org.MIUSA International Exchange ProgramsMIUSAs international exchange programs last from 2-4 weeks and are held throughout the year in the US and abroad. MIUSA has worked with people with and without disabilities from more than 100 countries. Activities include living with homestay families, leadership seminars, disability rights workshops, cross-cultural learning, and teambuilding activities such as river rafting and challenge courses. Participants develop strategies for making changes, both within themselves and in their communities. Focused programs have been developed for youth, young adults, parents, professionals and women. Founded in 1917, the Girl Scouts Columbia River Council is a nonprofit organization that offers a variety of programs for more than 12,000 girls. It offers Steps to Healthier Girls and Follow the Reader programs for girls between the ages of 5 and 17. The organization conducts drama and healthy living workshops. Its LEGO Robotics includes designing, building, programming and documentation options. The organization also hosts Girls Engineering Day and Northwest Science Expo, as well as overnights at the Oregon Zoo and the Pacific Science Center in Seattle. It also offers day and resident camps that include a variety of activities, such as fishing, archery and swimming. The organization conducts classes on topics related to communication skill development, bullying, conflict resolutions, personal safety, hygiene and domestic violence. COMCOA, Inc, was established in 1970 specifically to provide fraternity and sorority chapters with complete alumni communications programs. The cofounder and president of COMCOA, Hal Dick, is a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He served on Phi Kappa Psis national staff for nine years, was editor of Phi Psis national magazine The Shield, and is a past president of the College Fraternity Editors Association. He has over 20 years of experience as a chapter advisor, and served for several years on Oregon State Universitys Greek Advisory Committee. COMCOA works in conjunction with the alumni and undergraduates of Greek chapters to establish and maintain successful alumni communications programs. Regularly published newsletters keep alumni in touch with each other and their respective chapters. Fund-raising supports the programs. All members of client chapters and their national organizations benefit because the bonds of brotherhood or sisterhood are strengthened through regular communication. COMCOAs staff includes experts who work with Greek chapters on a daily basis. Alumni relations is COMCOAs business, and staff members care a great deal about client programs, providing personalized, focused attention.

Founded in 1912, Douglas Forest Protective Association is a nonprofit organization that contracts with the Oregon Department of Forestry to provide fire protection for the Douglas District in Oregon. The association provides wildland fire protection to more than 1.6 million acres of Bureau of Land Management, private, county and state lands within the Douglas District. It owns a wide array of firefighting equipment that includes bulldozers, 1000-gallon engines and tenders. The association operates throughout 16 patrol areas that are covered by forest officers in 200-gallon fire engines. In addition, the association takes on contract a fire suppression helicopter every fire season. Its reserve resources include two 200-gallon engines, a 1000-gallon engine, a bulldozer, a 1500-gallon engine and a mobile command post vehicle. Located in Roseburg, Ore., Douglas Forest Protective Association offers various programs, including pasture burning, Urban Interface Protection Act, fire prevention and community wildfire plans.

The Oregon and Washington State Society of American Foresters are two of 33 multi-state/state societies that make up the national body known as the Society of American Foresters, and is composed of professional foresters and forest technicians from Oregon and western and central Washington. Since 1900, the Society of American Foresters has been dedicated to improving the health and productivity of Americas forests. SAF provides information and networking opportunities to prepare its nearly 18, 000 members for the challenges and the changes that face natural resource professionals. The Society of American Foresters ( SAF ) is the national scientific and educational organization representing forestry profession in the United States. Founded in 1900 by Gifford Pinchot, it is the largest professional society for foresters in the world. SAF members include natural resource professionals in public and private settings, researchers, CEOs, administrators, educators, and students. All SAF members from Washington State, Oregon and Inland Empire were invited to participate in this years Leadership Conference, held at Pack Forest January 28-30. Download the presentations here.
