Scolaris Food & Drug is the largest privately-owned grocery store chain in Northern Nevada with 13 stores. Scolaris also operates 3 stores in the central coast area of California. There are nine superstores, which offer a variety of specialty departments such as fresh produce, service meat and fish, bakery/deli, full service floral, video rentals, expanded health and beauty departments, pharmacies; and four smaller, more traditional grocery stores that offer a full array of brand name groceries. Joey and Jerry Scolari are the owners of the company. The Scolari family started in the grocery business in the central coast section of California in 1947. In 1982, the Scolari family purchased the Warehouse Markets chain in Reno, Nev. In 1991 the trade name Scolaris Food & Drug Company was adopted to more accurately reflect the nature of the stores.
