Fr. John McEvoy was the first pastor for the Catholics of Shrub Oak and Yorktown. He was welcomed in 1896, and because of the community's growing sense of the need for a church, he purchased land and in 1893 the St. Peter's was established. The name was changed to St. Patrick's in 1933.

With the town's growing Catholic population by the 1980s, mass was being held not only at the Stone Church, but the church hall, and school auditorium. There was a need for a bigger church building.

Through funds, a major architectural plan was drawn and was construction started. In November 1984, John Cardinal O'Connor dedicated the New St. Patrick's Church and the Msgr. James J. Lynch Parish Center.

Parish Mission:

"We, the St. Patrick's Parish Family, are a Roman Catholic community of sons and daughters of God the Father who are empowered by the Holy Spirit to commit our lives to worship, prayer, compassion, service, education and sharing our Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and His Gospel with all others."

St. Patrick's has a pre-school and kindergarten, and other educational and recreational programs, such as religious education, a library, parenting education center, adult faith formation, hospitality, and home school association.
