D on Byrd graduated from Lufkin High School in 1961. He completed his education at SFASU in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree in General Business and Economics. He established Byrd Insurance Agency in 1971 in Lufkin. Don served in the military and was commanding officer of the Lufkin Army National Guard.
