Prior Aviation Service was formed in October 1961 by Jack B. Prior. Operating from the Greater Buffalo International Airport with leased facilities in the Buffalo Aeronautical hangars, the company originally provided helicopter and aircraft charter service and in mid 1961, the company entered the aircraft sales field. The company established the first State and Federal approved flight school in the northeast United States that offered their students both fixed-wing and helicopter (rotary-wing) flight training. In the mid 1960s, In 1970, it moved from the south side of the airport to the new general aviation area established by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) on the north side of the Greater Buffalo International Airport. In March 1987, Prior Aviation commenced the construction of a new aircraft hangar, shop, parts department and office facility on the north side of the airport. Approximately 22,000 square feet of high bay hangar area accommodates any of the new generation corporate jets. More than 7,000 square feet of office space, shop and parts areas are present to serve corporate aviation aircraft. Its corporate aircraft complex is located on a newly constructed five acre, heavy duty, aircraft parking area which include new taxiway access from taxiway Quebec. In 1992, the company opened the current corporate and charter passenger terminal. Prior Aviation provides services including fueling and ground handling to many of the scheduled airlines that operate from the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport. It also provides aircraft maintenance service from its FAA approved repair station BOIR473C to airlines.
