Regular Bingo evenings help raise funds for Post 233's contributions to the Loganville community as well as for veterans across the state.
The Atlanta Day Shelter is a refugue and support system for homeless women and children. The building and its administrators provide a safe, welcoming and professional environment. The shelter began in Atlanta in 1894 at a time when there were only night shelters and the only day shelters were for men. There is no residency in this shelter. Administrators keep a record of who is visiting and offer many programs to help the women become self-reliant. Through the Job Readiness Program, professional counselors, help from volunteers and corporate funding, most women gain a job that pays higher than minimum wage. The shelter has been at its current location since opening in 1984 and there is still room to serve more families in need.
Loving Arms Cancer Outreach provides resources and support for cancer patients and their families, and is comprised of cancer patients, cancer survivors and oncology nurses, as well as other members of the community. Loving Arms offers outreach programs designed to bring hope and joy into the lives of those facing cancer. Programs include support groups, financial assistance, education and resources, as well as hospice care and bereavement counseling for family members. Loving Arms also provides wigs and hats for those who have lost their hair from chemotherapy. Donations and volunteers always are welcome.
Second Life is an upscale thrift store that sells gently used clothing, home decorations and furniture. The mission of the store is to provide homeless pets with a second chance at life. Individuals can donate household items, books, gently used clothing, furniture, CDs, DVDs and more. All proceeds are sent to animal rescue organizations and causes.
