Cerritos Lane Pre-School is located on Cabrillo Lane in Cerritos. It can be found across the way from ABC Adult School and next door to a small strip mall that has a tutoring service, a tailor and a bakery. During the regular school year, this school offers tutoring, child care and afterschool programming for children ages 2-12. Day camp is available during the summer months. Field trips, activities and swim lessons are the usual offerings. Citizenship and working together are emphasized. Tuition is reasonable. Staff members are experienced, patient and engaging.
The City Hall for Cerritos is located at the Cerritos Civic Center and serves as the center of municipal administration and many of the city's services. The offices and departments here include: the city attorney, city clerk/treasurer, city manager, code enforcement, communications, administrative services, community safety and services, public works, community development, water and power and the sheriff's department. The City Hall grounds, which are shared by the Cerritos Library, also feature a sculpture garden, fountains and the Cerritos Veterans Memorial. Representing the 39th District of California, U.S. Congresswoman Linda T. Sanchez has her office located on Crusader Avenue just west of the 605 Freeway. Congresswoman Sanchez sits as the Chair of the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law. As a member of the Ways and Means, Representative Sanchez has met with President Obama at the White House to discuss healthcare proposals.
The five-member elected City Council provides policy directions to maintain and serve Cerritos and its citizens. The mayor and mayor pro tem are chosen from amongst the larger body. Mayor Carol K. Chen was elected to the Cerritos City Council in 2008 and previously served on the City’s Planning Commission, Property Preservation Commission and Community Safety Committee. Chen was re-elected to the City Council in 2009.
