Elected by the residents of Redondo Beach, the mayor and the council formulate policy, enact laws, promote community interests and implement programs and services than improve the quality of life in Redondo Beach.

Reelected in 2009, Mayor Mike Gin is currently serving his second term as the 28th mayor of Redondo Beach.

A Council member represents each of the five city district.

Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month beginning at 6 p.m. (closed session begins at 5 p.m.) in the Council Chambers at 415 Diamond St. (Calendar).

The City Manager's Office works with all of the city departments to ensure responsible fiscal management, continuous organizational development and process improvement, and appropriate organizational response to current events. The Office's numerous responsibilities include: overseeing the strategic plan, city budget, capital improvement and performance measurement programs; monitoring federal and state legislative activities and providing policy recommendations to Council; overseeing cable television franchise and coordinating telecommunications facilities agreements; and implementing the E-government Strategic Plan to insure rapid and efficient deployment of online government services.

City Manager Bill Workman has served Redondo Beach since 2005. He has worked in the public management field for over 30 years and demonstrated his exceptional expertise in pubic finance & building, organizational development, environmental protection, economic development and strategic planning.

Elected in 1995, Ernie O'Dell has led the City Treasurer's Office in the effort to increase the city revenues through innovative changes and best management practices.

The Office is dedicated to provide the highest quality municipal treasury services at the lowest cost. Its main services include maintaining the custody and investment management of all city funds in accordance with State Law, City Charter, and City Investment Policy, providing administrative support and internal auditing services for major tax-based operating revenue sources, providing operating budget and capital improvement program cash flow management forecast and advisory support services. It is also responsible for preparing monthly and quarterly management reports detailing cash and investment positions within all city funds, providing operational and strategic forecasts of key tax based and other major general fund revenue sources, providing administrative support services and internal audit review of various city operational functions in response to service requests. Apart from this, it also conducts annual review of both the City and Redevelopment Agency Comprehensive Statement of Investment Policy and maintain policies' professional certification,  provides managerial oversight of all city entities bond proceeds, continues implementation and review of numerous departmental best management practices enhancing both departmental productivity and the city's operating revenue base and provides internal support services to Financial Services and other key operating departments in response to internal support service requests.

Established in 1962, the Redondo Beach Redevelopment Agency consists of the Mayor and the members of the City Council with the City Manager serving as the executive director/secretary, the City Attorney as the counsel, the City Treasurer as the treasurer, and the City staff as the Agency staff . Its mission is to rehabilitate devastated areas in the city as a public entity.

The Agency has contributed vastly to the redevelopment of the public buildings, such as the Main Library and the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, through the state tax increment financing program.

The Agency currently has three project areas: Aviation High School; Harbor Center; South Bay Center. It meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

Redondo Beach City Attorney Michael W. Webb represents and advises the City Council, city officials, and employees in all matters of law. The city attorney also represents the City in all civil litigation.

The City Attorney's Office prosecutes all misdemeanors and the felony cases referred back to the Office from the District Attorney. City Procesutor Brenda Wells files criminal complains in the Superior Court and Southwest District, represents the People of the State of Califortnia in motions, pretrial hearings, court and jury trials, writs and appeals, and advises and trains law enforcement. 

The Community Proscution Programs include: Gang Activity and Crimes Prevention; Spousal Abuser Prosecution Program; Identity Theft Investigation/Prosecution Team; Homeland Security; Habitual Offender Project; Pier Offender Prosecution Program; Public Resource Code Prosecutions and Assistance to SEA Laboratory in Redondo Beach.

The Harbor Department manages the City's waterfront property to ensure an appealing area for recreation and commerce. Under the supervision of the Department, the Harbor Patrol office, located at the west end of Marina Way adjacent to Moonstone Park, answers questions regarding water safety and boating in King Harbor.

The Harbor Commission meets on the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers.

The Business Assistance aims to provide information and assistance to area businesses and residents. It gives Redondo Beach business owners site selection assistance, permit assistance, zoning and land use information and more.

Beach Cities Transit is the three fixed-routes bus system (Route 102, 104 and 109) which provides convenient north/south service connecting Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and El Segundo as well as east/west connectivity to the City of Torrance.
