The Stamford Government Center, located downtown on Washington Boulevard, holds most of the government offices for the city, including the mayor's office, the Office of Administration, the Office of Legal Affairs, the Office of Operations, the Public Services Bureau, the Engineering Bureau, the Land Use Bureau, the offices for Elected Officials and the Office of Public Safety, Health and Welfare. Municipal meetings are also held here.

Stamford residents can visit the Government Center during the general office hours to conduct business as well as use the computers located in the main lobby.

The Department of Children and Families serves 36,000 children and 16,000 families yearly in Connecticut. The Stamford Animal Care & Control Shelter provides a home for neglected and abused animals, as well as spay, neutering and adoption services. The facility can be found on Magee Avenue between Jefferson Street and Shippan Avenue in Stamford's Harbour Point area. The highly successful shelter has remained a no-kill facility under the guidance of director, Laurie Hollywood and has maintained the highest adoption rate of all similar shelters in the state of Connecticut.
