Public Works is one of the departments of the Southfield city, Mich., that provides community development services. The department comprises various divisions that maintain and operate the communitys infrastructure, such as public works administration, engineering, facilities maintenance, water and sewer, streets and highways, transportation and motor pool. It maintains city-owned properties, equipment and vehicles and operates water mains, sanitary and storm sewers, streets, sidewalks, bike paths, bridges, traffic control systems and street lights. Its Streets and Highways division provides street and highway repairs, street cleaning, snow removal and ice control, drainage, dust control, and road and shoulder grading. It also offers residential street sweeping, garbage collection and disposal, and recycling of yard waste. Additionally, the department provides mowing and electronic communications maintenance services. It serves as a liaison for citys partnership in the Resource Recovery and Recycling Authority of Southwest Oakland County in Michigan.
