Jay Schneiderman represents Suffolk County's second legislative district, which extends from Montauk to Center Moriches. Schneiderman, a former East Hampton Town supervisor, was first elected to his seat in the legislature in 2003.

He has belonged to multiple political parties and has also served in office as an unaffiliated politician, but on July 4, 2008, he joined the Independent Party of New York.

His office provides constituent services during regular business hours. Schneiderman is on the legislature's budget and finance, consumer protection, and public works and transportation committees.

Sag Harbor Village, founded in 1707, staddles the border of Southampton Town and East Hampton Town. The village's municipal building includes the clerk's office mayor's office, trustees' office, building department, treasurer, fire marshal and tax assessor.  The village board also meets at village hall, on the second floor.  The current mayor is Brian Gilbride. Village elections are held the third Thursday in June.

North Haven is a 2.7-square-mile island settled in 1665, north of Sag Harbor. Driving through North Haven is the only way to reach the South Ferry to Shelter Island. The village is served by the Southampton Town Police, Southampton Town Highway Department and Sag Harbor Fire Department. The current mayor is Laura Nolan.

The village board meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 5 p.m. at village hall. The zoning board of appeals, planning board and Board of Architectural Review & Historic Preservation also meet at village hall. The village has a small planning department and a part-time building inspector. North Haven Village Park is located behind the hall.
