Upper Providence Township was settled in 1683 primarily by people from Sweden and Wales. As of the 2000 census, it has a population of 10,509. The school district is Rose Tree Media. The Rose Tree Tavern, built in 1739, is still located at Rose Tree and Providence roads and is currently undergoing renovations.

The Media Borough has a population of about 6,000 residents and its host to the Rose Tree Media School District. It is located in the center of Delaware County and is about 20 miles outside of center city Philadelphia. It offers a suburban yet city feel with its walkable town center that offers shops, restaurants and businesses. The trolley that runs down State Street, Media's main street, is said to be the last American trolley running in a suburban town. The Borough Council consists of a mayor, council president and vice president and five council members. The city also has a borough manager. City government departments include police, fire, public works, recreation, code enforcement, health and community center and parlor.

Located on the grounds of Rose Tree Park in the historic Leedom House, this board manages activities and upkeep of four parks in the county; Rose Tree Park, Clayton Park and Golf Course, Smedley Park (which has a new multi-center) and Upland Park (which includes the Redwood Senior Center). The board arranges a program of over 40 summer concerts for the Rose Tree Park amphitheater during the summer months and the Festival of Lights display in December. The board also books several sporting events (cross country, baseball, soccer, rugby), arts and crafts shows, charity events and more.
