The Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA), founded in 1949, operates and maintains sewerage and water systems in Jersey City in New Jersey. The authority is responsible for water supply to homes. It owns more than 200 miles of sewers and over 5,000 catch basins. The authority pumps nearly 50 million gallons of wastewater daily. The Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority also inspects sewer systems through the use of closed-circuit television cameras. The authority offers repair and cleaning services for manholes, catch basins and sewer pipes. It utilizes radio detection equipment to identify previously unidentified pipes. In addition, the authority checks resident house connections. The Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority collects approximately 62,500-cubic-foot trash and grit at its treatment plants annually.
