The department operates a police division that is a full-service law enforcement agency and maintains peace, preserves life and safeguards individual rights. The Auburn Public Safety Department s fire division offers fire suppression, rescue, inspection and emergency medical services. The department s communications division has more than 15 part- and full-time employees that respond to emergency and nonemergency calls. The Auburn Public Safety Department is also responsible for the enforcement of building, fire and related codes. The department is governed by the city of Auburn in Alaska, which also operates economic development, finance and human resources departments.
