About 10 surfboards line the walls of the station's second floor. Each was donated by local residents or board makers, including a personal board of Dempsey Holder made at the old lifeguard station.
The Dempsey Holder Room on the second floor acts as a meeting space for local non-profit organizations. Requests to use the space may be submitted to the city of Imperial Beach. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department has an office in its building as well.

Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve, more than 2,500 acres, was officially designated a national wildlife refuge in 1980 and a research reserve in 1982. Here the Tijuana River empties into the ocean. A museum at the end of Caspian Drive details the area's biodiversity and acts as a starting point to miles of trails. The city manager is appointed by the City Council to handle the city's day to day business. The city manager also acts as an advisor to the council during all meetings. An assistant city manager helps carry out special projects and other duties of the office.
A desk is the first thing you see when you walk in the civic center's front door and is intended to be a place to referral residents to the specific city department that can address their needs. Helpful flyers, handouts and literature are available here. Public notices released by the city clerk's office are also posted here. Someone isn't always at the desk, so ask one of the city department's for help if no one is there.
As the head of public safety for the city, the fire department also oversees lifeguard services, animal control and the Community Emergency Response Team or CERT. The fire department has an ambulance, two fire trucks and primarily responds to medical calls.
Residents may visit during office hours for fire safety prevention tips and literature. The fire department inspects the community's buildings for fire safety compliance. Animal services are contracted out to the Chula Vista Animal Shelter Program.
