The city's Government Center, open since 2008, houses all the city departments except Parks and Recreation, which is based in the city's community center. The lobby is huge, and the front desk staff is helpful. The city council meets here on the first and third Thursday of every month.
St. Charles Police Department employs 112 sworn officers and 60 full- and part-time civilian employees. Police officers teach Drug Abuse Resistance Education classes to area students in fifth and seventh grades and serve as School Resource Officers in area middle and high schools.
Community members are encouraged to report tips to the Police by calling the Crime Stoppers tip line. Callers can receive a cash award for their information if it helps with the eventual arrest of a felony offender. Callers can remain anonymous. The hotline is 636-949-3333.
The city's municipal court is also located at this building. Residents can pay fines or tickets by cash or money order during office hours or in the 24-hour drop box.
The Department of Parks & Recreation is responsible for the upkeep of all Kirkwood's parks and public recreation facilities, such as the Community Center (where its offices are located) tennis courts, acquatic center, etc. The Department also offers residents and non-residents alike many programs and classes throughout the year including fitness, dancing, tennis classes and much more. Also under its purview is the annual Greentree Festival, an extremely popular event held every September in Kirkwood Park that offers live music and endless activities for all ages that highlight the community's volunteer residents and non-profit organizations.
Though one of the smaller districts in the county, the Shrewsbury Police Department has been serving and protecting Shrewsbury for almost 100 years. Led by Police Chief Jeffery Keller, the department patrols the municipality and educates the public to promote peace and safety.
Sunset Hills Community Center is located on South Lindbergh Boulevard and offers residents a wide range of services and amenities. The location offers numerous fitness programs and equipment, including 20 pieces of cardio equipment, such as treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, striders, and two sections of free weights ranging from light weights and kettle bells to heavy weight dumbbells. The center offers personal training, group fitness and specialized programs and also has a gymnasium available for rental for basketball, volleyball, tennis and soccer.
