The county's Mosquito Control Program routinely inspects nearly 4,000 sites around the county each year. The program's inspectors collect insect larvae, and if they find mosquito larvae, the program's workers use a larvicide that kills the mosquito and black fly larvae at the site, while leaving other life unharmed. In the summer, the program stocks mosquito habitats with a type of fish that feeds on mosquito larvae.
Headed by the borough's chief financial officer, the Finance Department manages the borough's expenses, assets and finances. The Finance Department also has a hand in the borough budget.
The Recreation Department is where Paramus residents go to sign themselves or their children up for the various sports the department offers, including basketball, football and soccer, or activities like trip camp or arts and crafts. Located at Petruska Park, the department hosts events for children as well, including a Pumpkin Hunt in the fall and an Easter Egg Hunt in the spring. A division of the county government, the Department of Health enforces the laws and regulations governing the county's health. The offices of Addiction Services, the Animal Shelter and Communicable disease, among others fall under its purview. This location also offers food-handling courses for prospective restaurant workers.
The county's EMS Training Center holds three programs: Emergency Medical Technician, Heavy Rescue and Hazardous Materials. The center was founded in 1976 in Bergen Technical High School classrooms. The center is the largest ambulance and rescue training facility in the region.
The Internal Revenue Service has a Taxpayer Assistance Center in Paramus. The center provide personal tax help for issues that can't be solved over the phone or online. IRS representatives are available for over-the-counter help.
