The Rinx of Hauppauge operates its own preschool for children 2 years old to 5 years old located inside the same building as the ice skating rink. It offers half-day programs such as Mommy and Me, the 2-year-old Separation Program and the 2-year-old Playgroup Program, all of which focus on preschool readiness and motor skills. The half-day programs also help parents and young children gradually separate and ease the transition to a school environment. Its full-day program for children 3 years old to 5 years old is divided by age group. It is designed to provide interactive learning in language, science, math, art, preschool manipulatives and dramatic play. It also has a computer/library lab. Outdoor playground recreation and ice skating lessons are included in the tuition.

Suffolk County's Women, Infants and Children (WIC) services aims to improve the overall health of expectant and new mothers with young children up to age 5. It offers breastfeeding support and nutrition education classes to help mothers make informed dietary decisions. WIC also offers food assistance by providing checks to purchase supplemental formula, low-fat or fat-free milk, whole grains, fruits and vegetables to low-income parents. Suffolk Works Employment Program is a local office of New York State Department of Labor which attempts to help residents overcome barriers to obtaining a meaningful job. All individuals must be referred from the Department of Social Services. The program requires a job readiness training which goes over use of pubic transportation, interviewing skills and job retention skills. Counselors provide aid in finding a job while they are receiving public assistance, to set individuals on the path to gainful employment.

Founded in 1974, the Suffolk County Office for the Aging is a county division that offers educational, legal assistance, transportation and in-home services. Located in Hauppauge, N.Y., the division s case management services include screening, monitoring, planning and assessment. The Suffolk County Office for the Aging also offers family caregiver support services, such as respite care and counseling. Its senior adult day care services include supervision, recreational, socialization and personal care. In addition, it provides on-the-job training, placement assistance, skill assessment, and job listing and search services. The Suffolk County Office for the Aging offers the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), which provides financial assistance for low-income senior citizens to meet costs from home heating. The division is a part of the Suffolk County Division of Human Services, which operates through handicapped services, minority affairs and youth bureau divisions.

The Suffolk County Human Rights Commission serves to prevent bias and discrimination against residents since the 1960s. It is made up of a committee consisting of 15 voluntary members and seven paid staff members who accept complaints from the public. Suffolk County holds that its residents cannot be discriminated based on race, color, creed, religion, national origin, disability, age, sex, gender, sexual orientations, marital status and other classifications.

Residents can file a complaint within one year using a form available on the website if they have been unfairly discriminated in a place of employment, housing, places of public accommodation, credit or volunteer firefighting. Any written documentation of discrimination or witnesses should be reported. The complaint will then undergo investigation by the county, which if probable cause is found, will go before a public hearing.

Empire State Development is the umbrella organization for New Yorks two principal economic development financing entities that includes the Empire State Development Corporation and the Job Development Authority. The Weights and Measures Bureau is a subdivision of the Suffolk County's Department of Consumer Affairs. It oversees the testing and inspection of all weight and measurement devices used for commerical purposes in addition to checking pre-packaged goods for compliance (e.g. scales in supermarkets, deli scales, butcher shops, laundromats, gasoline bumps and fuel oil meters). This is one of three Attorney Grievance Committees for the 10th Judicial District. Its job is to investigate complaints of unethical conduct against attorneys who are based in Suffolk or Nassau county. Chief Counsel Rita Adler leads a 20-member, court-appointed council made up of 16 lawyers and four non-lawyers who judge each case. If there is sufficient evidence, the council will prosecute attorneys for professional misconduct. Residents who feel their legal representaiton may have been dishonest or incompetant must file a written complaint. Disputes involving legal fees are generally not accepted.

Duryea building, residents should expect to be screened by metal detectors and endure police bag searches before entering. This is the western regional office supplying water to the Town of Smithtown, Town of Huntington, Town of Babylon and parts of Town of Islip.
