Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago s food bank, is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for poor people. It distributes donated and purchased food through a network of more than 550 food pantries, soup kitchens, and offers shelters to nearly 50,000 adults and children every year. The organization distributes nonperishable food and fresh produce, dairy products and meat. Its more than 265,000-square-foot facility has the capacity to store over 10 million pounds of food.
