Established in 2001 with the union of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and the United States Catholic Conference, The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is an assembly of the hierarchy that represents the U.S. and U.S. Virgin Islands contingents of the Catholic Church. The organization s purpose which is drawn from the church s universal law and applied to Episcopal conferences throughout the world is to promote the greater good that the Catholic Church offers to people. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops was established in 2001. It has headquarters in Washington, D.C., and additional offices in New York and Miami. The bishops that constitute the conference represent the more than 63 million Americans who belong to more than 19,000 Catholic parishes throughout the U.S.

Rev. Mills and the officers realized that with the rapidly growing congregation and great challenge before them, increasing needs and demands facing the church, the space was quickly growing inadequate again. On June 9, 1963 our congregation moved to our present location on the corner of 16th and Newton Streets N.W. Canaan Baptist Church has had three Pastors and an Acting Pastor. Rev. Mills, the founding pastor, served faithfully until illness forced him to retire in 1971. Rev. John M. Alexander, Jr., served as the church?s second Pastor from 1973-1976. After his departure, Rev. Francis E. Stewart, a son of Canaan, became Acting Pastor. Dr. Cornelius Carter, Jr., was installed as our third Pastor on October 24, 1977. He served faithfully for twenty-nine years until his retirement in 2006. Dr. Clark A. Houston became our Church?s Interim Pastor in 2007 as we began the search for Canaan?s fourth Pastor and served in this capacity until his death in 2008. At a special meeting, the Church elected Rev. Larry Owens, Jr. as our fourth Pastor. Rev. Owens was officially installed as Pastor on May 31, 2009. From our early humble beginning until the current year, Canaan has strived to become a beacon

Saint Anns Parish is a part of the Archdiocese of Washington and offers various religious services. Its adult education program features the family life series that consists of short presentations and discussion groups lead by parents for parents. The sacrament of first communion takes place for students in the second grade through the PSR program and through St. Ann s Academy s religious education classes. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program is designed to prepare those who wish to enter into the Catholic faith. It additionally offers a music and lecture series and the Spiritual Life Institute program. The church also offers online mass schedules and church bulletins. It has various ministries, such as Altar Server, Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Society, Mothers Group, Mother Butler Guild and a youth ministry.
