The Goldfish Point Café is situated directly above the La Jolla caves, where customers can view seals in their natural habitat and watch grey whales migrate at certain times of the year. This European-style café offers specialty coffee drinks, light breakfast and lunch options, sandwiches and salads. Getting to the café can be a little confusing, so look for signs for Coast Boulevard with an arrow pointing down (the café is located on a somewhat steep hill that's separate from the main La Jolla downtown area).
Nestled among the numerous boutiques, salons and print shops, is the charming Brick and Bell Cafe. Walls of rustic red brick call out to passersby to enter the outdoor patio and have a seat. More than 20 different teas and coffees are served complimentary to the variety of sandwiches, salads and soups available for breakfast and lunch. Brick & Bell is one of the busiest cafes in San Diego and manages to provide fast and friendly service. Regulars come for pastries that are direct from the in-house bakery and stay for the social atmosphere.
Pannikin Coffee & Tea has been a longtime San Diego local favorite, being one of the first original coffee houses. Starting in 1968, at the original location in Encinitas, the family owned and operated coffee house continues to roast coffee daily. Pannikin prides itself in offering single origin coffees, special formulated tea blends, organic and fair trade products. They also offer monthly flavors of coffee, tea and decaf. Products are also labeled light, medium or dark. The fine taste is attributed to the drip brewing method. For those who quickly drink up their morning cup of Joe, Pannikin cleverly put up a 50 cent refill window.
In addition to beverages, Pannikin will serve up hearty breakfasts and filling lunches. Get there early for satisfying morning meals of eggs, quiches, bagels, lox and homemade granola and oatmeal. Lunch selections include soups, sandwiches and locally made tamales. For the sweet tooth that pops up at any time, try the cinnamon rolls, scones, muffins or oversized cookies. Baked goods are all locally made or baked fresh daily at the Encinitas Pannikin.
Patrons can quickly become regulars and spend hours at Pannikin on a daily basis. WiFi is complementary and they recently added lots of outlets to charge up your laptops. Work and visit with friends outside under the shade trees and patio umbrellas or inside Pannikin's cozy nooks. Kids will enjoy the corner with the giant-sized chess set and comfy cushions. Add on the welcoming attitude of the friendly staff and Pannikin will quickly become part of your daily routine.
