Established in 1976, NEADS is a nonprofit organization that offers pets for individuals with hearing and physical disabilities. It trains all its pets, including pure and mixed breeds dogs and provides donated puppies. The organization provides hearing dogs who respond to sounds of a smoke alarm, crying baby, doorbell and alarm clock. NEADS offers service dogs that are trained to open refrigerators and doors, push elevator buttons, turn light switches on and off, as well as carry items in their mouths or backpacks. Additionally, it provides instructors training for students and organizes group tours of its facility. The organization also conducts various events, including golf tournaments, buffet dinners and auctions. NEADS maintains the national campus in Princeton, Mass.
