Named after the first female vice-mayor of Milpitas, the Barbara Lee Senior Center is home to classes, as well as fitness and recreation rooms. Any adult 50 years or older can become a member at a price of $12 for Milpitas residents, $30 for non-residents. The exercise room with gym equipment is $1.50 per visit, and the center also offers computers, classes and day trips. Seniors can socialize over lunch, with a $2.50 donation for 60-year-olds and up, and a $5 donation for guests 50 to 59 years old. The senior center moved into its new location during the summer of 2010. The renovated building has a fireplace, a beverage and snack kiosk, a magazine rack, classrooms, an art room, a dance room, a room with a ping pong and pool table and a Wii fit exercise set-up.
Ismailia Cultural Center is a Muslim cultural and community center for all people of that religion to go for sermons and to connect with other like-minded people. All sermons are in the language of Gujurati. This spot is associated with the Ismaili Muslim community worldwide and is a trusted member of the group.
The Sobrato Foundation offers two conference centers for its nonprofit tenants in Milpitas and San Jose; perhaps the best kept secret is that the facilities are free to any nonprofit organizations outside of the center that can show proof of insurance. No commercial, political or religious entities are accepted. The Milpitas site features five multipurpose rooms with capacity for four to 125 people (depending on the room), free WiFi, parking, a kitchen and a cafe with catering service. A computer training lab is also available for rent. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance.
Located on Los Coches Street, the 40,000-square foot India Community Center is one of the largest Indian-American community centers serving the San Francisco Bay Area. It also has the largest table tennis center in northern California.
ICC offers over 120 programs for the community including: Bollywood dance, Hindi and other language classes, GMAT, karaoke, singing and instrumental, Parent & Me, free legal, medical, and career clinics, senior programs, camp, carrom (a board game), cooking, and much, much more. It also has a membership-based fitness center with exercise equipment and classes such as yoga.
The medical clinic is open to patients without Medi-Cal, Medicare, or private insurance. The physicians do not diagnose or prescribe, but provide preliminary care.
The parking lot is home to a year-round farmers market on Sunday mornings from 8am - 1pm.
The Milpitas Community Center is a public recreation facility offering members of the community participation in an after-school program, public performance theater, art classes for kids and adults and enrollment in a pre-school. Additionally, community members can reserve public park space for parties and events by visiting the offices in the Milpitas Community Center.
