Administrated by Civic Arts Education, a division of Walnut Creek's Arts Recreation & Community Services Department, the Shadelands Arts Center is a community space located on North Wiget Lane. Available for rental, the space features an auditorium and meeting rooms, hosts a fine arts preschool program, regularly scheduled art exhibitions and art classes for students of all ages. Heather Farm is home to various amenities, including the Clarke Swim Center, an off-leash dog park, tennis and volleyball courts, ponds, bike paths and trails. It also features a connection to the Iron Horse Trail. The picnic area has seating 104 people and six barbecue areas, and may be rented for private events. For indoor events, the center may also be rented, and features seated dining space for 300 and theater-style seating for 450.
The community center at Civic Park hosts a wide range of programs for children, youth and teens, adults, families and senior citizens. These include courses on art, music, dance, performing arts and personal safety, among many others. The center is one of the site's for the city's Civic Arts Education program. The Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center works to create programs that connect with the needs and values of the people in Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Pleasant Hill and Concord in order to build a culture of peace. The Center focuses on five major programs: Youth and the Military, Peace Through Art and Writing for middle and high school youth, implementing the Department of Peace, and public educational forums to be determined.
