The Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center will be undergoing exterior renovations during the summer of 2010, but the building will remain open for programs. The Community Hall is available for meetings, special events and parties. The game room has a pool table, computers, books and a variety of games. The center is home to Early Childhood programs and the New Horizons senior program.
As locals know, the Barn Recreation Center is one of the main locations for park district programs, particularly for recreation and preschool programs. The facility's main floor and four classrooms may be rented for meetings, parties or special events. Contact the Community Relations Department for rental information.
Safety Town has its beginnings back in 1976 when then officer, now Mayor, George Pradel approached the Naperville Junior Woman's Club to help establish a child safety program. The club continues to provide financial support to Safety Town. The Safety Town Commission was formed in 1993 with the goal of creating a permanent site for Safety Town, located at Aurora Avenue and River Road. Every summer 1,500 children get a hands-on safety experience. Roughly 400 teens volunteer their time at Safety Town, along with members of the Naperville Junior Woman's Club.
Safety town provides an interactive learning environment for children entering kindergarten or first grade. The children go through a weeklong, 90-minute per day program that reinforces the importance of safety and includes visits from the Naperville Police and Fire departments, Naperville Electric, Burlington Northern Railroad and Naperville Animal Control. Children get hands-on experiences learning about safety issues including kitchen safety, fire safety, bike and water safety.
Donations toward the program or endowments are always accepted to help fund the program and maintain the facility.
Community Career Center is a volunteer-run employment center where community members can use available tools to conduct a job search, revamp their resume, or engage in other career counseling activities.
