The Long Island Crisis Center, founded by Adelphi University students in the early 1970s, was originally named Middle Earth. Its founders envisioned it as a counseling service for fellow students, but the center now offers counseling to all of Nassau County's youth. The Crisis Center provides support and one-on-one counseling, over the phone and online, for young people dealing with issues of violence, abuse, drug use and sexual identity.
