The United Nations Center/UNICEF was founded in 1975. The Center is operated by the United Nations Association of Southern Arizona, an affiliate of the UNA-USA, an independent, non-partisan, non-profit organization. Its mission is to study and promote peace, through the implementation of educational and informational activities, and advocates for responsible US participation in the United Nations and other official international and regional organizations functioning in various fields of international cooperation and international law. Our members are working to build American understanding and support for the UN not only with their neighbors, but with elected officials. The UN Center/UNICEF shop merchandises international folk arts and crafts, and educates the public in this regard. The proceeds from sales of the merchandise directly support UNICEF and United Nations education. UNICEF is the United Nations Childrens Fund. It is a non-political humanitarian agency which promotes and protects the rights of children. "With every girl we help educate: with every landmine we remove: with every conflict we prevent or peace we keep: with every community we lift out of poverty and every human wrong we defeat with human rights, we are making progress together. As active and dynamic members of UNA-USA, you should take full and equal pride in these accomplishments."
