California Family Life Center is a private, state-licensed, nonprofit agency. The organization was founded in 1983. The life center started with the development of special homes for at-risk youth and soon expanded with various programs to serve other abused, homeless and needy children. The California Family Life Center provides a 20-bed girls ranch, several group homes for troubled boys and girls, foster homes for more than 100 children and special assistance for about 200 children. The organization has a foster home complex in the Palm Springs and Coachella Valley, Calif., area called Sheltering Palms. The board of directors is comprised of 12 men and women from local Southern California communities who volunteer their time to ensure ethical and professional care for children served.

Assistance League of Hermacinto, a chapter of Assistance League, is a nonprofit organization of volunteers committed to serving community needs in Hermacinto, Calif. Since 1976, this chapter has supported a number of initiatives, including scholarships, clothing drives and toy drives for children in that community. Assistance League was the first nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization founded in the Western United States to utilize volunteers to help those less fortunate. With approximately 24,000 members in 115 chapters throughout the country, Assistance League volunteers work more than 2 million hours each year to address the emotional and physical needs of children and adults of all ages through philanthropic projects. The organization was founded in 1935.
