Ramona Lutheran Church holds worship services on Sundays at 9am, led by Pastor David Keil. Women's Bible studies meet at the church on Mondays, and men's Bible studies meet on Thursdays. Ramona Lutheran School, right next door to the church, nurtures and educates children in grades K-8. It is the only private Christian school in Ramona.
The 19,400 square foot library offers rental DVDs, CDs, books and magazines, all at no charge. There are computers with Internet access, study rooms and a community room. The library also offers tutoring and a variety of speakers, crafts and events. The Friends of the Library group supports the branch and issues a newsletter. They have a room in the library complex where they sell books.
Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church is located in downtown Ramona on Main Street. It is in the same shopping center as the Ramona Animal Hospital and China Blue Salon and Spa. Lead by Pastor Dan Erlenbusch, this church offers Bible studies, men's groups, women's groups, youth groups, kids club, a music ministry and family fellowship. Collier Park is in the central downtown Ramona area, near residences, schools and churches, and it is next to the Boys & Girls Club. It has an array of facilities to accommodate family gatherings. The park is designed with shade in mind. A large old oak tree shelters one of several picnic table areas. The playground structures have colorful canopies over them, and there is a covered pavilion. There are large, grassy areas for frisbee or other games. No skateboarding is allowed.
Ramona Woman's Club's history goes back to 1917. The club is at the northeastern end of Main Street. The building is dedicated to Ida M. Kearney, an early member.
First Christian Church of Ramona is a non-denominational, New Testament congregation just off Main Street in central Ramona. Sunday school starts at 8:45 a.m. and Fellowship at 9:30 a.m. Worship begins at 10 a.m. and on Wednesdays Bible study meets at 7 p.m.
The First Congregational Church of Ramona has been around as long as the town itself. It was founded in April 1898 and has been at its location on the corner of Eighth Street and D Street since 1907. Pastor David Auten leads the congregation that belongs to the United Church of Christ. A preschool on the church grounds provides a safe and spiritual place for children ages 18 months to 12 years. The church is very active in missions that provide charity in Ramona and Tijuana.
This group teaches the Lemurian Philosphy—based on a review of ancient civilizations and the teachings of Christ. The fellowship was founded in Ramona by Robert Steele in 1936. Its offices and staff housing rest on 60 acres on Highway 67. The site also includes a maintenance shop and a large multipurpose community building called Rhu House. The fellowship is run by a board of governors; there is no individual leader. No classes are offered on site, but rather students around the globe are taught by personal correspondence with teachers.
Connelly Farms is a family owned and operated farm that serves the Ramona area. The farm offers the community a variety of services, including micro-farms and produce deliveries.
Connelly Farms works with homeowners and restaurant owners to install and maintain micro-farms so customers can grow their own fresh fruits and vegetables year-round. The farm also grows and harvests its own fruits and vegetables and delivers them to restaurants and customers in the area.
Husband and wife team Darrel and Carol Kinney publish the Ramona Home Journal, a monthly publication featuring articles and event listings. Darrel Kinney explains that the Journal is designed to show Ramona's lifestyle type. The Kinneys also publish the bi-annual "Guide to Ramona," which provides a dining guide, map of the town, feature stories and an event calendar.
The name for the church is taken from Bible scripture John 14:6, and this church says it identifies with the Southern Baptist Convention. The Way Church's core values are evangelism, discipleship, worship, service, fellowship and leadership. The Rev. Andre Ramos is the pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. The towering, sand-colored spire on the corner of E Street and Sixth Street is one of the tallest structures in Ramona. A Spanish-language mass is celebrated on Sundays at 11:30am. Steve Johnson is youth ministry coordinator and keeps office hours at the church on Sundays from 9am to noon and Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm to 9pm.
The Rev. Gwynn Freund leads St. Mary's in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, located on 12th Street and San Vicente Road. Youth group activities include minisingers (pre-school-grade 1), choristers (grades 2 - 6) and mastersingers (grades 7 - 8). Sunday services are held at 7:30am and 9:30am.
Ramona Food & Clothes Closet looks like just another thrift store until you dig a little deeper. This particular shop provides emergency supplies to people in Ramona, Santa Ysabel, Julian, Ranchita, Borrego Springs and Warner Springs and also provides emergency boxes of food that will sustain a family for up to three days with fresh produce from the local farmers market, pasta, bread, canned goods and more. If you know of a senior in need, contact this organization for free food for a week delivered by the Ramona Sheriffs Volunteer Patrol. If you are unable to stop by the store, you can make a donation on its website and even shop online.
Mountain View Community Church sits high on a hill overlooking Pine Street and West Haverford Road. The Evangelical church's Sunday service at 9am includes youth service, Truth University, children's Sunday school and worship service. Another worship service begins at 10:45am. Charlie Youngkin is the senior pastor and Jason Winters is the youth pastor. Numerous ministries make up Mountain View Community Church, including groups for students, children and caregivers.
