The land was originally maintained by families of the interred until 1928, when Public Cemetery District formed to provide lower cost burial facilities to the community. Still, the cemetery is focused on giving Temecula residents a beautiful cemetery and a memorial for the final resting place for loved ones. The oldest grave is Lovica Welty's, with her burial dating back to the 1889. Some of the other prominent residents buried in the cemetery include Eli Barnett, a promoter of the First National Bank of Temecula in 1914.
