This historic cemetery, established in 1853, continues to serve a growing population in the Mystic-Stonington area. The location is serene and peaceful, occupying a large area of riverfront that has sweeping views and stately trees. The cemetery is run by a not for profit entity that coordinates a full variety of interment services.
Noank Baptist Group Homes was originally founded in 1972 in partnership with the Noank Baptist Church. The homes cater to young women ages 14 to 18 and offer a variety of health, social and psychological services. Noank Baptist Group Homes works closely with state agencies in order to provide a supportive environment for those most in need.
The bright red on St. Mark's Episcopal Church makes it easy to spot in Mystic. Founded in 1859 the Reverend Mark A. Santucci presides over Sunday services. The church hall hosts dinners and forums throughout the year, and every October the church invites patrons to bring their pets to service for the Blessing of the Animals.
Emergency Training Services provides instruction in emergency care and safety. Students train to address emergencies in the public, business, civic group and industrial sectors, among others. Its courses include EMT/MRT, National Safety Council Courses, hazardous materials and fire extinguisher usage. It has served clients such as the City of Groton Fire Department, Pro-Fitness Solutions, the Mystic Fire District, Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and Pfizer.
The Tourist Information Center located in Old Mystic Village opened in the 1980s. Since then, the Tourist Information Center has provided information, including maps, hotel information, transportation information and discount tickets to the Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium and Harbor Tours.
Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses is located on Flanders Road in Mystic. Bible study and services are held throughout the week in partnership with congregations in New London and Groton.
Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center is part environmental education center, part natural history museum, and part wildlife sanctuary. The nature center states its mission is "to inspire and nurture appreciation of the natural world and foster a personal environmental ethic." The nature center's wildlife sanctuary includes eight miles of hiking trails on 300 acres. The museum includes animal exhibits, eco-system exhibits and videos. The center also runs a preschool and has different programs and events for all ages throughout the year. The nature center motto is: "environmental education for all ages."
The Mystic YMCA, formerly known as the Mystic Community Center, is part of the Ocean Community YMCAs. Members of the Mystic YMCA can also use the facilities in Westerly and Wyoming, Rhode Island.
The YMCA offers adult and child fitness classes and has basketball courts, a swimming pool, beach and tennis courts.
Veterans of Foreign Wars is an organization providing assistance to servicemen and women who have fought abroad. Services include medical advocacy, social events and support groups. Post 3263 Hugo A. Simonelli Post functions as a meeting place for veterans. Members hold a number of community events throughout the year.
The offices of The New England Fisherman are located on Avery Road in Mystic by Dunkin' Donuts. The magazine is produced on a weekly basis and is geared towards saltwater Anglers in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic. The magazine is working on creating a website in addition to its print version.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic men's organization. It focuses on a variety of charitable activities, including operating soup kitchens and helping the intellectually challenged. The Rev. John F. Murphy Council #1943 meets the second Thursday of each month at 8 p.m. and is open to Knights in good standing. Those wishing to become a member may send a request to [email protected].
The Mystic & Noank Library was established in 1894 and serves the residents of Stonington and Mystic. The first floor features the children's collection and has an acitivity room for story hour. In addition to the children's collection, the first floor has computers and houses part of the adult collection. The upper floor features the rest of the adult collection. The library offers Wi-Fi and downloadable audio books.
The Mystic Congregational Church's goal "is to joyfully bring the Christain principles of faith, hope and love to all." It is located in the historic downtown Mystic and serves over 500 people. The church was founded in 1852. Pastor Reverend Ann M. Aaberg leads the Sunday morning services.
