The Lakewood-Trumbull YMCA, near the border of Monroe, offers activities including travel basketball league, soccer, basketball, tee-ball and tennis. The outdoor center in Monroe has three separate pools, boating, miniature golf, tennis and basketball on 47 acres of woodland. It is closed after Labor Day. The Trefoil site has a fitness center and conducts dance, gymnastics and aerobics classes. Dawn Dalrymple is the executive director.

Sitting right in the middle of town is the Simsbury Historical Society and its complex of buildings. The non-profit educational corporation was founded in 1911 and its first and current home was acquired in 1962. The site includes several structures all within walking distance from each other. The society also has archives and other collections that relate to early settlements in Connecticut, the founding of Simsbury, and the development of the surrounding region.

The Simsbury Flying Club operates the Simsbury Airport, which is a small, non-towered, public-use airport located just outside downtown Simsbury. The airport is open year-round and offers self-service fuel, engine maintenance and flight instruction. The Simsbury Flying Club holds an annual Simsbury Fly-In event at the airport which is a wonderful, family-friendly day featuring visiting airplanes, antique cars, food and more. St. Matthew Lutheran Church, originally founded in Collinsville in 1885 as the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Matthew, moved to its current location on Route 177 in Avon in 1963, according to the church website. The church is a member congregation of the New England Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Pastor William S. Carter, a Brooklyn native, has been a minister since 1972 in the state of Connecticut and came to St. Matthew in 1984. St. Matthew serves over 250 families. In addition to its Sunday worship services, the church has Sunday school, a choir, youth choir and youth ministry. For those interested in becoming ministers, St. Matthew participates in the ELCA's internship program. Interns are actively on staff for one year at St. Matthew before completing their final year of preparation to become a minister.
