Liberty Church brings people together because they believe prayer can change lives. They gather and spread God's word through fellowship, prayer services and study groups. Liberty Church has grown since its beginnings almost 20 years ago and has a sister church in Worcester.
St. Nicholas Orthodox Church is a small, but intimate group of people who open their arms and welcome newcomers. The church has a rich history spanning more than 50 years. Through its outreach program, the church runs an Orthodox Food Center, an emergency food pantry, as well as supporting the Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
St. Anne's Rectory is a Catholic Church that serves the community not only through its liturgy but also through its thrift shop. Proceeds from the thrift shop are used to buy food for families in need. As such, St. Anne's feeds 300 families in town, a total of almost 700 people. The shop takes donated goods and products, with the exception of electronics, computers, books and stuffed animals. If donating furniture or appliances, call first. The Shrewsbury Media Connection is a public access cable station run by the town. It has three cable channels: government, educational and public. The government channel runs 90 percent of all town meetings. The educational channel offers all school programs including plays and sports. The public channel shows a variety of local cable programming.
Shrewsbury Historical Society is a community organization based on Church Road. The society works to keep alive and develop interest in the history of Shrewsbury. The organization works to collect and preserve items of special value, traditions, and curiosities and also encourages public interest in the history of the area. The Shrewsbury Historical Society Museum Store carries a collection of period items, including Colonial toys, books, decorative goods, coloring books, Cat's Meow figurines and prints. The purpose of the Shrewsbury Commission on Disabilities is "to bring about full and equal participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life." The commission assures the advancement of legal rights, supportive services, accommodations and accessibility.
Picturesque Dean Park in the center of town offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Baseball and softball fields, tennis and volleyball courts as well as a children's playground and walking trails provide many avenues of entertainment for individuals and families.
Play, picnic or relax and take in the scenery on a bench along Dean Pond at this well-maintained, expansive public park, which also boasts a bandstand, pavillions, restrooms and several parking lots.
Run by the Shrewsbury Department of Recreation, this park is a must-see in town.
The First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury focuses on bringing its members together through worship every Sunday. The congregation is involved in many outreach programs, helping the homeless locally and nationally. It also offers many educational programs for youth, women and all members of the church society.
The Shrewsbury Council on Aging is located in the Shrewsbury Senior Center, near the municipal campus. It serves individuals aged 60 or more, retired or disabled people, as well as families with senior issues. The reception area is to the left from the front door. The Council works closely with other local departments and agencies to provide services.
The Senior Center is part of the Council on Aging. Comfortable and welcoming meeting areas are seen throughout the building. The lobby area includes a pool table, books, and a nice area to sit and chat. Many general-interest programs are available such as computer classes, games, music, trips, crafts and yoga classes. Free legal clinics and medical screenings are offered as well. A blood drive is held monthly on the last Thursday of the month.
St. Mary's is one of the largest church communities in town. As a parish, the members of St. Mary's want to be a community united with God. They commit to continued growth in knowledge and faith while sharing the Word of God through love, worship, education and service.
