St. Nicholas Orthodox Church is a small, but intimate group of people who open their arms and welcome newcomers. The church has a rich history spanning more than 50 years. Through its outreach program, the church runs an Orthodox Food Center, an emergency food pantry, as well as supporting the Holy Trinity Eastern Orthodox Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

St. Anne's Rectory is a Catholic Church that serves the community not only through its liturgy but also through its thrift shop. Proceeds from the thrift shop are used to buy food for families in need. As such, St. Anne's feeds 300 families in town, a total of almost 700 people. The shop takes donated goods and products, with the exception of electronics, computers, books and stuffed animals. If donating furniture or appliances, call first. Shrewsbury Historical Society is a community organization based on Church Road. The society works to keep alive and develop interest in the history of Shrewsbury. The organization works to collect and preserve items of special value, traditions, and curiosities and also encourages public interest in the history of the area. The Shrewsbury Historical Society Museum Store carries a collection of period items, including Colonial toys, books, decorative goods, coloring books, Cat's Meow figurines and prints. The Shrewsbury Council on Aging is located in the Shrewsbury Senior Center, near the municipal campus.  It serves individuals aged 60 or more, retired or disabled people, as well as families with senior issues.  The reception area is to the left from the front door. The Council works closely with other local departments and agencies to provide services.

The Senior Center is part of the Council on Aging. Comfortable and welcoming meeting areas are seen throughout the building.   The lobby area includes a pool table, books, and a nice area to sit and chat.   Many general-interest programs are available such as computer classes, games, music, trips, crafts and yoga classes. Free legal clinics and medical screenings are offered as well. A blood drive is held monthly on the last Thursday of the month.
