Dr. Murariu performs cosmetic surgery procedures and reconstructive surgery, with an interest in microsurgery for breast and head and neck reconstruction, lymphedema surgery, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery. After completing his combined masters of public health in international public health and his medical degree at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Murariu completed his general surgery residency at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and his plastic and reconstructive surgery residency at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He gained additional knowledge and skills during his fellowship in microvascular reconstructive surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He has published more than two dozen journal articles and book chapters. He served as an ad hoc peer reviewer for Aesthetic Surgery Journal, Journal of Anesthesia and Clinical Research, and SAGE Open Medical Case Reports. Dr. Murariu has been operating internationally on a regular basis since 2015, helping bring new procedures and techniques to developing countries. His interest in charitable activities is served through the non-profit he started in 2006 and through his Rotary Club. Dr. Murariu has received multiple awards for his charitable activities, including the 2012 District 5000 Jerry CL Chang Peacemaker Award and a State of Hawaii Proclamation by the House of Representatives in 2012. In 2015, he gave a TEDx talk about his approach to international medical missions. He is fluent in Italian and Romanian and has basic command of Spanish. Dr. Murariu has medical privileges at Allegheny General and West Penn Hospitals.
