Dr. Matthew Epstein BOARD CERTIFIED ORAL + FACIAL SURGEON Dr. Matthew Epstein loves people, relationships, and conversations. From the design of his office to the office team, it is apparent that this is vitally important to him. He strongly believes that the patient-doctor relationship is a two-way street. Dr. Epstein spends a significant amount of time educating and discussing treatment options with his patients. You won’t find educational videos anywhere in his office that tend to dilute the patient-doctor relationship. He is passionate about providing unique and excellent surgical options to his patients. He is uniquely able to manage both the hard and soft tissue of the face and mouth due to his training and experience in oral and facial plastic surgery. His surgical interests in oral and plastic surgery are exemplified in the techniques and technology he integrates into patient care. Dr. Matthew Epstein was raised in Blaine, Washington, where he developed a lifelong enthusiasm for the outdoors and affinity for the Pacific Northwest. His childhood was spent hiking, camping and engaging in evergreen forests with his two brothers. Dr. Epstein is also an avid soccer fan, playing the sport from the time he was two years old, and now participates as a loyal Sounders fan. Together with his family, Dr. Epstein moved to Seattle to attend Bellevue High School, where he subsequently completed a B.S. in Biology followed by a DDS at the University of Washington. Dr. Epstein also enjoys exploring new countries and cultures, and traveled from an early age, first with his family and now with his wife. He studied abroad in Prague during college and he has recently traveled twice to Guatemala with The Free to Smile Foundation where he collaborated on cleft lip and palate repairs. His commitment to service and community health brought him closer to home as well. He volunteered weekly throughout his training at the 45th Street Clinic, ultimately becoming the clinic coordinator. His love of new experiences and exploration eventually took him to the East Coast for a unique and wide-ranging Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center outside of New York City. There, he developed his interests in facial cosmetic surgery and post-reconstruction rejuvenation.

I made my decision to become a plastic surgeon during my surgery rotation as a third year medical student at the University of Washington.

I assisted on a nasal reconstruction done on a young Seattle woman who had been born with a nasal deformity. I witnessed her physical transformation as her plastic surgeon carved a bone graft harvested from her hip and inserted it into the bridge of her nose. I witnessed her mental transformation as she recovered from her surgery and discovered the beauty in her own face.

The journey to become a fully trained plastic surgeon was long and arduous but well worth the privilege I now enjoy in helping people achieve their personal best.

Most plastic surgery patients are individuals with one or two features that bother and distract them. These features, whether it is disproportionately large or small breasts, a protuberant abdomen, a sagging jaw line or an unsightly facial mole can usually be addressed safely and effectively. The patient is then free from that particular distraction and can enjoy life with more confidence and less self-consciousness.

The key to a successful operation depends upon the doctor and patient working together as a team. I spend as much time as needed to evaluate the patient’s area of concern, determine their motivation and needs and assess if their expectations are likely to be met. I educate my patients about the nature of their condition and the treatment options available. The decision to proceed with surgery is made only after my patients have a good understanding the procedure and its benefits and risks.

Plastic surgery is a rapidly evolving specialty and I regularly participate in continuing medical education to stay up to date on new procedures and treatments.

I am supported by a skilled and caring office staff who are dedicated to making your surgical experience a good one.

When I’m Not Working….Hmmmm……Depends on the day, the season, the weather and my mood. Strumming my guitar, skiing, walking my dog, worshiping my cat, reading a good book, hanging out with my husband and children, digging in my garden, running around Greenlake, trying to figure out my Instagram account, etc
