It represents indigent individuals charged with crimes. The office also provides various appellate services to individuals with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities and personality disorders. The Office of the Public Defender for the Tenth Judicial Circuit arrests law violators and offers indigency screening services. The office maintains a department of juvenile justice and juvenile detention center. It conducts detention, adjudicatory and disposition hearing procedures, as well as files formal charges. In addition, the office prepares defense cases and administers various commitment programs.
