Suffolk County government is the main body of government that handles the Sachem area, aside the Town of Brookhaven and Islip.
Run by County Executive Steve Levy, a Sachem High School alum, the county is divided into 18 legislative districts, each represented by a legislator. As of 2010, there are nine democrats, six republicans, two members of the Independence Party of New York, and one legislator from the Working Families Party.
The main county offices are located in the H. Lee Dennison Building on Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge.
